Sobeys is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students for their Sobeys & Empire Scholarship Program. It is a fully-funded scholarship for all students.

About Sobeys

What started as a small meat delivery business in 1907 has grown into one of Canada’s largest companies. But we haven’t forgotten our modest beginnings and a promise to put customers first.

Our success can be attributed to strong community ties, where teammates and customers are our family, friends, and neighbours.

In 1998, we merged with The Oshawa Group and its strong merchant network. Nine years later, we welcomed Thrifty Foods into the family.

In 2012-2013, we expanded through Quebec, Atlantic, and the West with the acquisition of Shell fuel locations, Atlantic Co-ops, and Canada Safeway. 

Aim of Sobeys & Empire Scholarship Program

The Sobeys & Empire scholarship program was created to nurture the careers of a deserving students. They are committed to developing talent within the company. Every year, we award an average of 40 scholarships worth $1,500 each to qualified students across Canada.

Requirements for Sobeys & Empire Scholarship Program

Scholarships are available to full-time students completing their high school education or attending a Canadian college or university.

Applicants must have worked for Sobeys or affiliates for a minimum of six months or 500 hours as of April 30th each year. An academic average of 70% or higher in the most recent semester is required.
