Tanuj Mahashabde was active in theatre for almost 15 years. He wrote dialogues and scripts for many shows in collaboration with other writers. He debuted in the television series Yeh Duniya Hai Rangeen (2000). He was part of many series produced by Asit Kumarr Modi of Neela Film Productions. He played a small role in the series C.I.D.
It was the role of Scientist Krishnan Subramanian Iyer in the longest-running series, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, that made his name popular. It first aired in June 2008 in Sony SAB televison channel. His character is a South Indian who is married to a Bengali and portrays the interactions among the inmates of a society called the Gokuldham Society.
