Temasek Polytechnic is a located in . It is the third polytechnic established in the country. Temasek Polytechnic teaches an industry-focused curriculum, which is an alternative to a broader-based junior college/ .

Established on April 6, 1990, the campus of the institute sits on a 30-hectare plot near the in the eastern part of Singapore.

Temasek Polytechnic features 37 full-time and 40 part-time diploma courses, spread over 6 academic schools. Currently, Temasek Polytechnic has approximately 14,000 full-time students and more than 1,200 academic staff.

The Ministry of Education has a great deal of control over how the curriculum is implemented.

As it promoted a shift from instruction based on teacher lectures and student memorization to one that emphasizes student engagement and creativity, ministry officials met regularly with school leaders and developed an extensive series of professional development opportunities for teachers as they rolled out the new system.

However, in recent years, the ministry has sought to loosen its control over the curriculum, encouraging schools to consider the curriculum as a framework and to adapt and work within the framework to meet the needs of their students.

Secondary schools are also encouraged to develop additional courses to bring a distinct flavor to their schools; students choose their secondary schools and often select those whose unique approach matches their interests.

Compulsory education in Singapore includes six years of primary school, four years of secondary school, and one to three years of post-secondary school.
