The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) is now accepting applications from suitably qualified students for their TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowships. It is a fully-funded scholarship for all students.

Through three decades, TWAS’s mission has remained consistent: Recognize, support and promote excellence in scientific research in the developing world.

Respond to the needs of young scientists in countries that are lagging in science and technology; Promote South-South and South-North cooperation in science, technology and innovation; Encourage scientific research and sharing of experiences in solving major problems facing developing countries.

TWAS and its partners offer over 600 fellowships per year to scientists in the developing world who want to pursue PhDs and postdoctoral research.

TWAS prizes and awards are among the most prestigious given for scientific work in the developing world.

Aim of TWAS-SN Bose Postgraduate Fellowships

1. A monthly stipend to cover living costs and food will be provided. The monthly stipend will not be convertible into foreign currency. Free on-campus accommodation will be provided.

2. The monthly stipend does not cover comprehensive health or medical insurance.

3. Also, partial reimbursements of Doctor’s fees, medicines and/or hospitalization costs for costs incurred in Kolkata will be given according to the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) of the Government of India.

Requirements

1. Be a maximum age of 35 years on 31 December of the application year;

2. Be nationals of a developing country (other than India);

3. Must not hold any visa for temporary or permanent residency in India or any developed country;

4. Hold a Master’s degree in physics, mathematics or physical chemistry;

5. Be accepted by a department of the S.N. Bose National Centre. Requests for acceptance must be directed to the Dean (Academic Programme), S.N. Bose National Centre for Sciences by e-mail ([email protected]) (see sample Acceptance Letter, at the end of the application form in the link to the webpage).

In contacting the Dean (Academic Programme), applicants must accompany their request for an Acceptance Letter with a copy of their CV, a research proposal outline and two reference letters

6. Provide evidence of proficiency in English, if the medium of education was not English;

7. Provide evidence that/he will return to her/his home country on completion of the fellowship;

8. Not take up other assignments during the period of her/his fellowship;

9. Be financially responsible for any accompanying family members.
