West Africa Emerging Leaders Program is now open for applications from suitably qualified students. It is a fully funded scholarship for all students sponsored by the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
About the Program
was launched by the United States government as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders who will shape the future of the African business and entrepreneurship, civil society leadership, and public sector management.
The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.
The need to invest in grooming strong, results-oriented leaders comes out of the statistics: nearly 1 in 3 Africans are between the ages of 10 and 24, and approximately 60% of Africa’s total population is below the age of 35.
Benefits of West Africa Emerging Leaders Program
At the end of the program participants will be awarded with certificates and become members of the prestigious YALI Alumni.
Participants will be taken through various forms of leadership training to prepare them for leadership roles in their various organizations, communities and countries.

Selection Criteria
Competition for the YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa is merit-based and open to young West African leaders who meet the following criteria:
1. Are 18 to 35 years of age at the time of application submission,
2. Are citizens and residents of one of the following countries: Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Burkina Faso.
3. Are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.
4. Are eligible to receive any necessary visa to Ghana, and
5. Are proficient in reading, writing, listening and speaking English.
